It took me too long to realise why some people are considered smart and others dumb. Its all about exercising the mind. Now am convinced that once you exercise your mind, it will get hungry just like any other part of the body. Then you'll love books, and in books there is knowledge. Those who donut read books have a limited outlook on issues and life in general.
So what is 'exercising your mind' and what exactly do you have to do to exercise the mind. One way is to engage in meaningful talk, even arguments and see if you are making sense, from the others' point of view. Once you get a comment for striking a good idea, my dear, you are smart ass, and no body will take that from you.
The other activity is to read books. And don't just read any book. No, read books on subjects have always wanted to know and that interest or challenge you. Thats when you'll be keen enough to pick the points and commit them to memory...
Traditionally, Africans pass on an oral tradition, linking generations through the epochs of time - the past & the future. I started this blog in my first year at Makere University, as a feeble attempt book the discourse of my life & family, because it wasn't written anywhere, except folktales. This blog has stood the test of being ignored, change of blogging technology and questioning its very existence, but reading this stuff back to myself, I see why I'll keep it.
